Midseason MLTP Power Rankings and Awards
Russ is dead so someone has to make something. Here are some power rankings and awards at approximately the midpoint of the season along with some vague thoughts. I don't really know ball like that but I tried my best. 👍
1. TRI
Good vibes + good players = winning
This team is doing pretty well and I think when playoffs come around, Alpha is probably gonna play a little more defense than he currently does which bodes well for them.
Saget on O was insane value for 2 TC lol. This guy is absolutely nasty with the flag. I've only played with him in vc once, but his comms are really good (as are the rest of this team's). He still grabs a ton, but it's chill on this team (since they put asap on D lmao).
Playing against Alpha has gotta be annoying as hell. This dude is always ahead or in the right spot. He's not playing at the level we've come to expect from a stats perspective so far, but I don't think he cares as long as they keep winning.
Big jazzz fan. She's been a top support ball this season. Notably, I think she's been a really good blocker, and that's not gonna show up in the big stats, but I've seen a ton of caps that don't happen unless jazzz does a particularly good job blocking.
I realized I wrote stuff about literally every player except ASAP so uh keep it up ASAP. Whenever a player has DGASP > 9 and TGASP < 2, I'm gonna call them a farmer even if it's not true, so good job farming.
Watching flaccid trip commentate these games is so funny lmao.
Awards at halfway:
- Alpha: MVB 3rd, WR HM
- Saget: OBOS 2nd
- ASAP: DBOS 2nd
2. LBT
Don't bet against Junoon
Swear these guys are in ranked together literally every night. They have to average like 20+ hours of Discord vc a week.
I was a little skeptical about how this offense would look against majors defenses, especially after the series against RPO but they've been pretty solid so far. Big games against TRI and ABO will tell us if their offense can really hang come playoff time, or if it'll just become the Junoon show when the going gets tough.
I think the ranked-player team is built to shit on teams that don't have the pure talent to keep up with them (since that's what they do all day in ranked anyway), and that's exactly what they've been doing. They hit like 12 snipe RFCs a game.
Before the draft, I was a big believer in noswag, and I'm happy that he's been cooking on D as well. He probably won't get much award recognition this season, but shoutout for playing great support D all season.
Don't bet against Junoon.
Awards at halfway:
- Junoon: MVB 1st, DBOS 3rd, WR 1st
- Irony: OBOS HM
- Mac: OBOS HM
3. ABO
OMB is generational
I think LBT vs. ABO is a really close matchup. If you pick either one over the other, I can't blame you.
OMB looks like if you put LeBron in the 90s; he's just a step or five ahead of the game. I swear his ball responds quicker to inputs than mine. He just had his "worst" performance in that he didn't outcap the other team (ass) and ABO still won the series. He also looks better on OD than he has before, which is scary.
Anti-re on D has been much better than I anticipated. Putting up more prevent than Syn is lowkey insane. I think coming into the season, people probably had doubts about them having a true first ball on D, but Anti-re and Button have answered the call well. Anti-re's play has allowed Button to play much more fluidly and he looks really composed doing so.
This team is really, really good on pups from both a macro and micro perspective. Button's pup rate is over 21% which is legitimately insane.
I think they have a small tendency to troll more than the two teams above them, which is why I put them below LBT and TRI. Admittedly I'm probably anchoring too much to their Sardonica loss against SCP but whatever.
Awards at halfway:
- OMB: MVB 2nd, OBOS 1st
- Button: MVB HM, WR 3rd
- Anti-re: DBOS 1st
4. SCP
I'm still a believer
They haven't won a series yet, but they've eked out points in the last three weeks, putting them in a solid spot to get the fourth seed.
I didn't realize this until after I wrote most of this, but their cap diff is only -8 after four weeks. Among the three bottom teams, they look the least outclassed against the top three based on eye test.
Fly has been great on defense after missing Week 1. She'd be firmly in the DBOS conversation if she hadn't missed that week, and this team really needed a defensive anchor.
Meowza and Fender have been doing Meowza and Fender things as well, with some elite holding and game control on the offensive end. I've seen them save a decent amount of caps by grabbing and holding in situations where I entirely expected them to die.
There's an uncomfortable Omni conversation that I'd guess hasn't been had. He was really good in minors last season, but it looks like he's playing without any confidence in himself. This past week he had two good games, and it contributed directly to their two wins, which hopefully can turn things around for him mentally.
In order to really make noise to challenge the top 3 teams, they're gonna need Omni to play like himself alongside consistently great Meowza and Fender performances as well as fly to maintain her current form. I honestly don't think the probability of this is that low, but it isn't that high either.
If I was a betting man, I'd bet they're the last team that makes the playoffs.
Awards at halfway:
- Meowza: MVB HM, WR 2nd
- Fender: OBOS 3rd
- Fly: DBOS HM
5. RPO
Unc ahh team
Drafting nameless was a high-variance play that hasn't worked out, but I can't blame Josh for taking the shot.
BDL still looks good. Putting him on D is something I thought they'd try. Bam and Arby are both pretty good support defenders but there are some really mechy offenders this season, and if nameless is position-restricted, I think BDL on D is probably their best course of action.
I feel kinda bad for Bam. This guy just wants to play some fucking defense, and since S37 his team just keeps putting him on O.
The vibes are probably still lit though, and the race for fourth is still wide open. They played the top three teams in the first three weeks which is insanely brutal lol. If they come out swinging Week 4, they should have confidence they can make a run. If they don't, I think their chances are all but dead; especially since they have to play TRI and ABO again.
Very strongly hoping for them to come out and get around 10 points, which would make the standings: SCP: 19, CAP: 18, RPO: 18 heading into the final three weeks.
Awards at halfway:
- BDL: DBOS HM, WR HM
6. CAP
What happened?
The preseason consensus was that this team was supposed to be good.
They're getting mauled on pups. Last week against LBT, they lost pups 31 to 59. Holy.
Idk why this team didn't call up a defender. Kep is great, but not the piece they needed for the couple weeks they played him, and they're kinda wasting Messi by making him play D. That being said, it was probably Messi's idea for him to play D to keep his teammates happy which I have to respect.
Should've gotten baby_shark when you had the chance. I like the AJ call-up, but he's getting thrown into a pretty losing situation.
Contrary to RPO, I think the vibes are… probably not great. In order to make a playoff push you need to have good mentals when your backs are against the walls and uh… hm.
Syn playing for his D stats pmo. It works when he can straight-up mech diff the other team, but against at least the top three teams it gets exposed, especially because people have it entirely priced in and just try to chain quick caps when this guy is hauling ass back on D.
Free messi.
